Project structure

How a project is structured is one of the ways that will help it run smoothly. The following items are generally used in most IT projects. Just knowing that these structures and processes are in place makes those who belong to the project or those that support it feel much more comfortable that those controls are in place and used to guide it.

Steering the project

Most projects will have a steering committee to help guide the project. They are there to reference, guide, and motivate the project team during the length of the project. The steering committee is usually made up of the executive project sponsor, senior company management, such as the director of IT, VP of finance, the program manager, both the client and partner PMs, and the project SA. There may be times when the committee will invite some members of the project to their meeting.
