Scalability in cloud computing
How do you define scalability in an intuitive manner? A resource is said to possess scalability if it can handle a variety of different tasks that you may throw at it. Let's continue working with our car analogy. Let's say that you had to deliver a package using your car. If the package fits and you can perform the task, then you can confidently say that your vehicle was able to scale to handle the task at hand. What if you need to haul groceries? What if your neighbor needs to haul a mattress? If your car happens to be a pickup truck, you might be able to complete the task and the truck can scale to handle the task. But as you can see, the "scalability" of your car is about to hit its limit.
In the context of computer science, "scalability" can be used in two ways:
- The ability of an application to continue to properly function when the volume of users and/or transactions it handles increases. The increased volume...
