The importance of governance
Governance is used to set the direction of the company and how it operates. It establishes a functional way that your employees, and your company, operate. Governance is not an easy task by any means. Employees tend to get into a routine and do not look to make changes to that routine. Governance can impede how an employee performs their job functions or can direct an entire organization toward a common goal.
Organizational governance, much like organizational risk management, comes from the top and is pushed down throughout the organization. The board of directors and executive leadership set the direction of governance throughout the organization. It is then your responsibility to take those requirements and apply them to some type of policy. Remember, however, there must be a continual feedback loop that allows analysts and engineers to report failures and present them to top management for review.
