Spotfire's map chart visualization is a multi-layered visualization. Within a map chart, you can have multiple layers, all shown together. You can have more than one of each type of layer—the only limits are the memory and processing capability of your machine and the eventual complexity of the chart.
Map charts can have layers of the following types:
- Map layer: This is the default layer that' screated whenever you add a map chart visualization to your analysis.
- TMS layer: The Tile Map Service layer, for displaying map backgrounds as tiles—in fact, Spotfire uses TMS for its own default map layers. There are all sorts of things you can show with TMS layers, such as custom maps, satellite imagery, traffic information, and much more.
