Introduction

This chapter focuses on explaining the Kotlin approach to working with JVM File, InputStream, and OutputStream types. We are going to explore the group of extension functions offered by the standard library under the kotlin.io package, which focus on enhancing support for I/O operations. Note that at the moment, with the Kotlin version 1.2, the following recipes are applicable only to code targeting the JVM platform.
