Other forms of taxonomies
In its simplest form a taxonomy is merely a classification of words. However there are different forms of a taxonomy. One variation of a taxonomy is an acronym table. An acronym table is an acronym and the translation of the acronym. Fig 4.5 shows an acronym table.
A more sophisticated form of an acronym table is a homograph table. In a homograph table there are acronyms. However the same acronym can have multiple translations depending on the context of the word.
As a simple example of a homograph table consider:
HA
- Heart attack when spoken by a cardiologist
- Hepatitis A when spoken by an endocrinologist
- Headache when spoken by a general practitioner
