A CISO leads the security team in an organization. The security team is important, given that a CISO cannot perform all the technical as well as the managerial functions required of them. The main role of a CISO is to come up with a strategy and policies to implement the strategy. After coming up with a plan, the security team comes in handy in implementing the plan. The CISO may lack some technical expertise but provides a managerial function. In the current environment, a CISO plays more of a managerial role than a technical role, thus any technical actions will be delegated to the junior members of their security team. CISOs are then able to concentrate on managerial duties, creating partnerships internally and externally, as well as aiding in the long-term strategic planning and decision making of an organization.
