Migrating Hyper-V hosts
There are several ways that Hyper-V migration can be achieved when migrating from a legacy Windows Server OS version to Windows Server 2022. These migration options can be mixed and matched to achieve the service-level agreements (SLAs) and requirements of the business regarding the migration plan.
Some thoughts to take into consideration when planning a Hyper-V migration are as follows:
- For critical workloads that require high availability and short downtimes or maintenance periods, cross-version live migration can be considered as it requires no downtime to complete the migration
- When using Hyper-V Replica servers, the Replica server must be upgraded first so that it can receive replication from down-level servers or at the same Windows Server OS version
- When moving virtual machines to a new server running an updated Windows Server OS version, the replication settings must also be updated to indicate the new Hyper-V server or Hyper-V Replica...
