Summary
In this chapter, we learned how to simulate advanced LTE features, such as conducting site surveys, setting up HetNets, and evaluating interference management algorithms using the ns-3 LTE module. Although this chapter did not cover advanced LTE topics in depth, it gave a quick understanding of important details, such as REM plots, the importance of small cells in HetNets and how to configure their access, and the importance of interference management algorithms to offer fair throughput results to edge UE. In particular, we discussed in detail how to generate a REM plot and understand its details for site survey, how to simulate a realistic HetNet setup using building models, and how to manage the spectrum to control interference in an LTE network using strict frequency reuse, fractional frequency reuse, and enhanced fractional frequency reuse techniques.
