Cleaning unnecessary files, pacman, and caches
Cleaning is an essential part of system maintenance. Manjaro is an optimized and highly trimmed OS that doesn’t accumulate files without a reason. However, systems with low amounts of HDD space would benefit from cleanup. For this reason, we will review the systems on Manjaro that may need such checks, along with the inspection tools and ways of cleaning.
Where do unnecessary files come from?
Manjaro is universal and supports a wide range of hardware (HW), so it holds thousands of packages. As a Rolling Release distribution, it downloads updates frequently. In April 2023, by default, pacman
checks for updates every six hours and keeps three versions for each package – two previous and the latest. If the latest version has some bugs or incompatibility with another package or running software (SW), we can easily switch to a recent version. pacman
