Extreme DAX, reveals the full potential of the DAX language's features, and it's an exhilarating journey. I'm looking forward to the second edition, which will certainly bring additional tools, such as 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, that promise to extend the Scope of DAX even further. This is an absolute essential resource for BI Developers && BI Analysts, enabling the use of advanced DAX techniques to perform in-depth data analysis.

Extreme DAX is the perspective of two well experienced and respected Power BI experts who have been consulting in the field for a long time. The book focuses on best practices for Power BI modeling and how the power of DAX can best be utilized. As such, the book is ideally for those who have some experience with Power BI and DAX.I like how the authors start out discussing where and how Power BI and DAX fits into modern business intelligence solutions. In my own experience in the field, I have in some cases used too much DAX and other cases not enough. This is where I found the first few chapters to be very useful in helping me understand how to strike a good balance while maintain best practices.Before touching on any DAX coding, Henk and Michiel tackle the topic of effective model design and some of the typical challenges that tend to come up in Power BI data modeling. I found it to be very refreshing that they decided to deal with such an important part of building effective reports in Power BI.

I was fortunate enough to receive a no cost digital copy of this book. It is so expansive there is still more to read. I have found the Packt publishing group to turn out some good material from solid experts in analytics. I did purchase a hard copy of their Power BI Cookbook 2nd edition.

This book is what the title suggests, extreme. This is a great addition to your library assuming you have already learned the basics of Dax and powerpivot/power bi. The book illuminates situations where some BI experts may revert to SQL and encourages a more elegant DAX solution instead. Some of the material might not be immediately relevant to most reporting use cases, but going through the book will definitely give some ideas and open up more possibilities. It’s definitely a worthwhile supplement to an analyst’s reference library.

I was supplied with an early review copy.I found the book to be well written and easy to follow. It has content that addresses all the major elements of DAX; modelling, security, calculations, visualisations and performance. It's content on performance is the first I've read that really helped me understand some of the real life issues I've come across.This isn't a book for beginners, nor is it a book that will teach you how to present your data to the boardroom. It is a book that will help you understand what DAX is and how to make it do what you need.
