Estimating Cloud Solution Costs and Initiative Saving

Estimating the costs of your cloud solutions is one of the pain points for every organization transitioning to the cloud, from both technical and financial perspectives. It is also a key part of the Inform pillar, as it enables a lot of visibility on possible cost optimization opportunities, as well as projected costs of future projects not yet delivered.

When our infrastructure is hosted in the cloud, we need to be able to estimate the cost of new projects, to make this factor into our decision-making, as costs can make or break a project if not justified.

Apart from being able to estimate the potential cost of new projects, we need to be able to analyze the impact of our cost optimization initiatives beforehand. For example, if we know that an initiative is going to yield big savings, we should prioritize it over others.
