To understand the importance of time synchronization between networking devices, we need to think about monetary transactions, video surveillance, broadcasting shows, and other activities that are time dependent. Thus, Network Time Protocol (NTP) is another protocol of the TCP/IP protocol suite that enables time synchronization among networking devices. Both Cisco switches and routers are equipped with a software clock that starts when IOS boots up; however, as a network grows, it becomes difficult for the network administrator to maintain time synchronization among all networking devices in an organization's infrastructure.
