Configuring DPM

DPM is a DRS capability, and so it can only be enabled on a DRS cluster. DRS uses DPM to change the power state of underutilized ESXi hosts to reduce the energy consumption by the cluster. DPM is disabled by default. It uses the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) for power management.

Getting ready

ESXi hosts that are managed by DPM should have their corresponding Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) settings configured correctly using DPM Host Options.

Cluster Host Options need to be configured with the details of the BMC card on each host. The following procedure will help you to configure host options with the details of the BMC card on each host:
