The weight of being a leader
The CIO and CISO must make difficult decisions every day. Their average day involves hot topics with their teams, business stakeholders, management, and the board.
Most CISOs must confront significant business changes and have management pressure on them to meet their expectations. There is a large global cyber talent shortage, which will make the role even harder.
Given the natural stresses of cyber-attacks and defending the enterprise, the CIO and CISO will often feel unsupported and worry about their own personal liability should the company be breached.
It is important to note that stress itself is not necessarily a bad thing. A certain amount of stress can help CIOs and CISOs to perform at their best. On the other hand, when there is too much stress, this can lead to team burnout. The CIO and CISO are at the top of the food chain but have a disproportionate amount of stress on their shoulders.
