Implementing scale-free Scrum architectures
In both the original Scrum Guide and the Scrum@Scale Guide, the Scrum Team is the idealized development unit. The Scrum Team has all the skills to take a concept and run with it until it is ready for deployment. Scrum@Scale keeps the fundamentals associated with the basic Scrum Team and builds scale by simply adding new Scrum Teams as needs arise.
More importantly, Scrum@Scale implements a scale-free architecture through networked structures and scaled roles. Building on the basic Scrum Team, interconnections form in relatively small SoS Teams, ideally consisting of five people per Scrum Team and five Scrum Teams per SoS. Likewise, SoS Teams combine, as needed, to form Scrum of Scrum of Scrum (SoSoS) Teams. Situationally, the numbers can vary somewhat, but the ideal is five members for each type of team structure:
