SharePoint Patterns and Practices (PnP) is an open source initiative coordinated by the PnP core team, which consists of Microsoft's internal folks and external Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVP) and provides guidance, samples, reusable components, and documentation for the community https://dev.office.com/patterns-and-practices. PnP contains a library of PowerShell commands (PnP PowerShell) that allows you to perform complex provisioning and artifact management actions for SharePoint. The commands use the client-side object model (CSOM) and can work against both SharePoint Online as well as SharePoint on-premise.
