The DevOps Portfolio Classification and Governance

This chapter introduces us to the last part of the book, as well as to the third pillar of the DevOps 360° operating model: rollout, accelerate, and scale. In the coming sections, we will discover the aspects and importance of classifying, governing, and ensuring the readiness of your portfolio from a DevOps evolution perspective. The chapter starts by discussing the value proposition of portfolio classification for the DevOps 360° evolution. Moving on, we will look at the two dominant types of portfolio classifications that we can find in an incumbent bank context: one based on business and client impact criticality, and another based on a technological and architectural foundation. We will discuss both from a DevOps value proposition perspective, which will eventually lead to discussing the DevOps speed formula, as proposed in this book.
