Using Excel as the query tool against cubes

The first tool that we will look at is the world's most common BI tool Excel. Many people have been using the PivotTable functionality against data that resides in Excel spreadsheets. What you actually can do, now that you have a cube, is to use the same functionality but together with your cube. The interesting thing here is that when you connect your Excel client to the Analysis Services cube you actually do not have any data in Excel. Excel sends an MDX query whenever you interact with the PivotTable, and displays the results from the query in the PivotTable.
