Working with image file links
When you place an image into InDesign, the original image actually remains a separate file and is not copied into the InDesign document. Instead, InDesign creates a link to the image file and then creates a low-resolution proxy version of the image for display within InDesign. It is important these links remain intact as missing links or modified links can cause significant problems for your documents.
In this recipe, we are going to look at embedding images, unembedding images, fixing missing links, and updating modified links.
Getting ready
In order to complete this recipe, simply open InDesign on your system and create a new document with 12 pages, as shown in the Creating a new document recipe in Chapter 1. You should be comfortable adding images to your document, as shown earlier in the Placing images into InDesign recipe.
