Creating cutaways
When inserting in a cutaway, it is best to find a particular point in the main shot that motivates the cutaway. Play through the edit on the Timeline and mark any key moments where the subjects look away off-camera or seem to be thinking. Here’s an example of how to do that:
- Move the playhead to the following timecode of the Timeline:
01:01:13:05
. Both the bride and groom see something outside the shot (off camera) that attracts their attention. Notice that their eye-lines are looking to the lower-left part of the frame. We will need to find a B-roll clip where the action matches the direction of their eye-lines. - In the Media Pool, locate clip
A001_04041629_C028.mov
and load it into the Viewer. - Play it until you reach
16:29:09:02
, where the B-Roll is of a little boy and girl walking up the steps. This shot matches the direction of your couple’s eye-lines.
