Summary
There is much more about lighting, but the procedures described here should give you a good idea of the approach used while lighting a scene. The key concept here is to think about a source of light as something that we can control and shape to our will. Placing objects in front of a light will scatter it and make it create interesting shadows. Speaking of shadows, remember that they are the main tool with which we create a sense of depth in a bidimensional image.
In the next chapter we will delve deeper into the realm of realistic lighting by using an alternative renderer, LuxRender, via the Reality plugin. With Reality we will be able to change the Studio materials to simulate real materials such as metal, glass, and water. The world of photorealism is within reach.
