Summary
In this chapter, we started by defining caching as a computing technique to store and manage copies of data for faster access. The primary goal is to reduce the time and resources needed to retrieve frequently accessed or computationally expensive information. We then covered some other key concepts including cached data, cache hit, cache miss, and eviction policies
Then we delved into distributed caching. Distributed caching optimizes data access by strategically storing frequently accessed information across multiple interconnected servers or nodes. We learned that it aims to mitigate performance challenges related to slower, disk-based storage systems. This is effective in scenarios where rapid access to data is crucial, such as in web applications and databases. We explored the differences between caching and distributed caching in terms of the following dimensions: scope, architecture, scale, and use cases.
