Hyper-V Server storage space utilization
Hyper-V itself is not concerned with drive technologies or connection methods. All it expects is one or more locations to place virtual machine files. Deployment planning will include understanding how Hyper-V Server uses storage.
Management operating system
The files for Hyper-V Server and its management operating system require 32 GB for a supported configuration, although by default, it will use less than half of that. It is recommended that this be placed on some form of internal storage, although Hyper-V Server can be booted in any fashion that Windows Server supports, including across a network. Files that make up the management operating system will be almost exclusively read, and most intensively during boot cycles. During normal operations, these files are very nearly idle. Therefore, there is no need to design storage for Hyper-V Server and its management operating system to provide high performance.
