Chapter 4. Exchange Security
Role-based access control (RBAC) is the new permissions model introduced in Exchange 2010. In the earlier versions of Exchange prior to Exchange 2010, we used to manage permissions on Exchange objects through Active Directory access control lists (ACLs). Modifying ACLs can have serious consequences from a management and upgrade perspective and can get complex very quickly.
RBAC provides a framework that allows delegation in Exchange Organization.
In this chapter, we will talk about securing Exchange and delegating access to administration tasks using RBAC. We will also configure certificates on Exchange and review its usage. The next configuration of applications to relay e-mails through Exchange will also be covered in this chapter. We will end this chapter by reviewing how to allow and block administrators to manage Exchange using Exchange Admin Center from the external network.
