Advanced network configuration

With virtual switches created in your environment, it becomes extremely important to configure them in a manner that enables performance and security like any other form of networking. Both the standard vSwitch and VDS have plenty of configuration options, making them flexible enough to meet the workload networking demands. In this section, we will cover the advanced settings that are available on both the standard vSwitch and the VDS. In most cases, both the switching constructs have the same settings, with VDS including a few unique capabilities.

We will cover the following advanced topics:

  • Virtual switch security settings

  • Traffic shaping

  • Load balancing and failover
