OPNFV and its role in service provider NFV
Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV) was announced by the Linux Foundation back in 2014. Its aim is to create a standard carrier-grade platform, mainly for NFV.
Since the Linux Foundation also hosts OpenDaylight and Open Network Operating System (ONOS), the combination of a network controller such as OpenDaylight or ONOS and OPNFV can help transition industry toward virtualization of networks and network functions.
OPNFV promotes open source networking and motivates companies to work together to accelerate innovation. It can be used by service providers, data centers, cloud providers, vendors, end users, and developers to create an open source platform in order to accelerate the development and deployment of NFV.
