Import – preparing media for editing in iMovie
In Chapter 4, we looked at Libraries and Events, which contain all of your media files. To recap, the iMovie Library contains every file that you have imported into iMovie, sorted into Events that you create. Each project also has a separate Project Media tab. When looking at the import process in this chapter, we’re going to keep all the media for one video inside of Project Media, as this is a clean and simple way to arrange files, provided you don’t have too many of them. When you’re in the timeline, you can access the import menu in two ways:
- Click the downward-facing arrow in the Media Browser or at the top of the iMovie window
- Use the ⌘ + I keyboard shortcut
When you do, a file browser will open (Figure 5.1):
