Working with complex routes


Complex routes obey the simple route rules. Complex routes contain the close loop, self-intersecting, double-back (overlap), and branching route features.

Getting ready

In this section, you will create a delivery route for customers of the Farm Food Delivery service. Your complex route will be used for:

  • Measurement system: time

  • Measure unit: minutes

Your complex route will use the street centerlines as reference lines from the Street feature class. The complex route will have eight simple routes as shown in the following screenshot:

In the end, your complex route will form a closed loop by double backing on itself and self-intersecting.

You can continue to work in your map document MyEvents.mxd, add the FarmFoodDelivery layer, and skip step 1. Open the YourEvents.pdf file from ...\Data\LinearReferencing. The file contains all necessary information to complete the complex route.
