Enhance your AI and data literacy with real-world examples
Learn how to leverage AI and data to address current and future challenges
Description
AI is undoubtedly a game-changing tool with immense potential to improve human life.
This book aims to empower you as a Citizen of Data Science, covering the privacy, ethics, and theoretical concepts you’ll need to exploit to thrive amid the current and future developments in the AI landscape.
We'll explore AI's inner workings, user intent, and the critical role of the AI utility function while also briefly touching on statistics and prediction to build decision models that leverage AI and data for highly informed, more accurate, and less risky decisions.
Additionally, we'll discuss how organizations of all sizes can leverage AI and data to engineer or create value. We'll establish why economies of learning are more powerful than the economies of scale in a digital-centric world. Ethics and personal/organizational empowerment in the context of AI will also be addressed.
Lastly, we'll delve into ChatGPT and the role of Large Language Models (LLMs), preparing you for the growing importance of Generative AI. By the end of the book, you'll have a deeper understanding of AI and how best to leverage it and thrive alongside it.

I've been debating on creating a course on this topic for months, but I couldn't get my head around all the topics I'd need to cover. As soon as I saw this book, everything came together. It's literally every topic I was thinking about AND it's laid out in exactly the right orders too.I work with so many executive leaders that need to understand AI. They are not unintelligence people. I think what I loved about this book is that it assumes you're smart, but it doesn't assume you're an engineer. It strikes just the right balance of tone and information without making you feel lost. I highly recommend it. There are really some genius ways of explaining some of these concepts in this book. It's golden!

AI and Data Literacy makes a convincing argument that everyone, regardless of the kind of work they do, need to be Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data literate, since these two aspects affect almost everyone universally. While such awareness can help with managing its impact on one’s life, knowledge in these areas can often help with being able to thrive in this brave new world as well. The book then goes on to provide a high level but comprehensive education of these subjects to the reader. The target of the book appears to be people in the corporate world in developed countries, where data and AI are in relatively heavy use on a day-to-day basis, but who are not actively involved in consuming or producing it, such as Data Analysts, Data Scientists or Machine Learning engineers. However, there is something in the book for the latter group as well – a unique perspective that is in-between the high level userland view and the low level system view that most of us are used to.I think this book is especially relevant in this era of democratization of Machine Learning that Generative Large Language Models such as ChatGPT has brought about, where the only skill one needs to begin to harness these models to do useful tasks is some proficiency in a human language such as English. There is also a danger that such powerful models can be misused, and the AI and Data literacy that his book offers can go a long way in making the reader aware of such dangers, as well as giving them an understanding of how to harness these technologies for their and society’s betterment.

Is AI going to take over the world and make all of us our minions? Are a lot of people's jobs going to be replaced by AI? While some of these questions can't be answered yet, this book will answer a lot of the questions you have about AI, machine learning, and big data.AI is here to stay. There is no way to get around it. And this book was written to explain how AI works to a non-technical audience. Learn how AI makes decisions by comparing it to how humans make decisions and the many traps both can fall into. The book also covers the ethics of AI, which is a big issue because we are trusting machines to provide us with accurate information and make decisions for us.This is not a book for data scientists, but for everyone else who wants to know how AI is changing the world.

In today's digital age, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data literacy is reshaping how we engage with information, make decisions, and participate in the modern world. This book is timely and insightful, and delves into the critical role of AI data literacy in empowering individuals to navigate the complex landscape of technology, data, and information. The book is comprised of ten distinct chapters, each one targeting a unique aspect. The author starts by explaining the history of literacy, the risks of AI, and the importance and challenges of both. The author then moves into more complex discussions delving into various topics; from Data and Privacy Awareness to Understanding How AI Works to Probabilities and Statistics. There is a lot of good stuff in here, and much of this is critical information, given today's concerns. One of the highlights of the book is the authors ability to coherently explain complex concepts, for example the Beginner level 101 explanation of how ChatGPT works. The author doesn't stop there though - he also provides two further detailed explanations for more proficient and advanced users. This approach helps to make the content more relatable and less intimidating to readers. In summary, AI & Data Literacy is an enlightening and informative read. The author has managed to pen a book that is not just a theoretical discussion but a pragmatic guide for the digital age. The book is a valuable resource and a call to action for every reader to become an informed, responsible digital citizen in this data-driven world. Whether you are a tech enthusiast, a student, a policy maker, or someone who is just interested in understanding the implications of AI and data in our lives, this book will provide valuable insights and guidance.
