Using ligatures and alternatives
Most print fonts will be listed as one of two types: TrueType or OpenType. At this stage in history, pure TrueType fonts are considered outdated and are no longer being made, so adding these older font types is generally not recommended. Ligatures and alternatives are available within the OpenType font options. The term ligature comes from the Latin term ligare, which means "to tie." Some fonts offer ligatures for joining two or three common combinations of letters. They can be used for maintaining proper kerning or for decorative purposes. Alternatives allow you to customize the look of your text by selecting from a selection of alternative character choices.
