Lighting with Reality and Lux


Another area where Lux shines is in the way it simulates light. To understand how light works, we can consider how a standard digital photo camera works. In real life light is emanated from a source, it hits objects nearby, and it's reflected by those objects. The light reflected bounces off other objects, and it becomes tinted based on the colors of the surfaces touched. Finally, the light rays reach the camera, they are gathered by a lens, and hit the image sensor where they will be converted to digital data.

The camera lens has an iris that works similarly to the human iris; it adjusts the aperture of the eye, the pupil. A smaller pupil keeps excessive light from hitting the retina. A smaller lens aperture does a similar job; it reduces the amount of light that hits the image sensor.
