Choosing and using CAM software
When you buy a 3D printer, it is very likely that the manufacturer will provide you with a slicer program to use with your specific model printer. Some printers may only work with the slicer program supported by the manufacturer.
However, many printers are compatible with a generic slicer program such as Slicr, Cura, or Kiri:Moto. In fact, you might find that your printer comes with a modified version of these generic slicer programs as they are often open source applications. An example of this would be Cura LulzBot Edition, which is a modified version of Cura adjusted specifically for the features included with LulzBot 3D printers.
However, all of these programs, even the brand-specific ones such as Cura LulzBot Edition or PrusaSlicer by Prusa Research, can often still work with printers made by other manufacturers.
