Numeric Calculated Fields
There is a wide variety of number functions available in Tableau’s calculated fields. Users can take any numeric value, be it typed in the calculated field or taken from another field, and apply a mathematical function to it. These range from functions for numerical transformation to number formatting options and logic relating to circles.
Referring back to the orders data source example from the introduction, there are many numeric types of calculation logic that could be applied to supplement the data source. For example, the DIV
function could be used to divide total profit by total sales to calculate a profit ratio. Numeric functions can also be used to format the data correctly, for example, by using the ROUND
function to specify a correct number of decimal places for metrics in the data source.
