Extruding your mesh

Extruding a mesh is a very handy function in Blender. It can help you create extra faces in your mesh. It allows you to pull faces, edges, or vertices out of the original mesh. An example of extrusion can be seen in Figure 9.1.

The node that we will use to achieve this effect is the Extrude Mesh node, which can be seen in the following figure:

Let’s start off this chapter by giving you a demonstration of this node.

Demonstrating the Extrude Mesh node

We will begin by adding an Ico Sphere to your Blender project and adding a new node tree to this Ico Sphere.

Luckily, the Extrude Mesh node is quite easy to use. All we need to do is to drop the Extrude Mesh node between the Group Input node and the Group Output node. As you do this, you will see that our Extrude Mesh node works as intended!
