Associated specifications in AuDG
Before we can go ahead with enabling AuDG, let’s first understand the following terminologies that are associated with AuDG.
Region and roles specification
In a local AuDG configuration, the values of regions and roles for a primary and standby Autonomous Database do not differ, but the values carry a difference with a cross-region AuDG configuration. AuDG will assign the value for the region as either primary or remote based on its role at the time when you enabled the Autonomous Data Guard option. That is, if the database has the primary role, then the region value would be primary, and if the role is standby, then the region would be remote and this value for the database does not change after a switchover or failover:
- Primary: This is the region where the primary database or local standby database is provisioned
- Remote: This is the cross-region where the remote standby is initially created
