Overview of an upgrade
If we decide to welcome an upgrade, then we can potentially have many exciting new features that may be useful for our applications. At the same time, if we decide against an upgrade, it is very important that we are aware of the negative aspects of not upgrading.
It is not mandatory to upgrade an existing environment whenever a new version is released; however, there are many circumstances that may prompt you to consider an upgrade. The following presents a few possible situations and scenarios where you may opt for an upgrade:
You may not be able to resist the temptation of an upgrade, with the possibility of the new release/version's features being more advanced than the previous version.
Your organization may have a set policy or standards to stay updated with the latest technologies.
You may need to upgrade a version that is being de-supported by Oracle. In this case, Oracle does offer the option of an extended support period.
