Co-authoring an important document
There are times when you need more than one person to product a document. SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft Word 2010 both allow multiple users to simultaneously edit the same document. This recipe shows you how do it.
Getting ready
This recipe works for:
SharePoint 2010 Foundation
SharePoint 2010 Standard Edition
SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition
Office 365 (SharePoint Online)
You will need Microsoft Word 2010, and your document must be stored in a SharePoint document library for this to work.
All co-authors will need at least the Contribute permission level to edit the document.
How to do it...
Open the SharePoint Team Site with the document that you want to co-author.
Open the Shared Documents link in the Quick Launch menu.
Select the document that you want to co-author.
Click on the Edit Document icon in the Documents tab of the Library Tools ribbon.
The document opens in Microsoft Word 2010. Start editing the document.
Get one or more co-workers to also edit the same...
