The Telemetry service has been fully integrated in the OpenStack ecosystem since the launch of the Grizzly release. The Telemetry module was referred by one main project code named Ceilometer, which provides the users the ability to:
- Collect metering data of both physical and virtual resources deployed in OpenStack
- Store metrical data in a storage backend for further analysis
- Define and collect events for alarm evaluation
- Trigger alarms based on defined criteria
Starting from the Liberty release, the Telemetry module has changed the gears by enabling more features. This includes the introduction of two additional sub-projects working in tandem with Ceilometer as the core component of the Telemetry service:
- Aodh service: To handle alarm code functionality
- Gnocchi service: A dispatcher driver to Ceilometer for archiving metrics storage support
