Let's now try something more than just an example. In the previous chapter, we read in some currency exchange rates, in particular how much one USD (US Dollar) is worth in other currencies. In this section, we'll extract the exchange rates and currencies, learn how to use variables, copy data, and execute code when a match is found.

Working with variables – to, thru, and copy

The exchange rates file was named rates.xml, and when we look at its contents in an editor, it consists of a number of <item> XML tags, each containing an exchange rate, such as this:
