Summary
Congratulation! You have successfully completed chapter four of this book. Well done. The chapter explained electric motor as a machine used to convert electrical energy to mechanical energy. By classifying electric motor based on the type of power supply they use, we have AC motor and DC motor. AC motor can further be classified into synchronous and asynchronous while DC motor can be further classified as brushed and brushless.
You should now understand asynchronous motor and be able to connect it in star or delta. Also, you should be able to connect wire an asynchronous motor to start and stop it using DOL starter method etc.
The chapter also discussed stepper motor and servo motor. You should now understand a stepper motor and how to drive them. And finally, you should now have an idea of how a servo motor can be connected to a PLC.
The knowledge acquired in this chapter will help in understanding Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) in the next chapter.
