Adding users and groups to Tableau Server and Cloud
Users and groups are key to securing data and content on Tableau Server and Cloud. We will add users and groups directly to Tableau in this chapter. If you are following along using your organization’s Tableau Server or Cloud and you have a role less than Server Administrator (Tableau Server) or Site Administrator, sign up for a trial Tableau site at the link provided in the Technical requirements section.
Before we start this exercise, it is important to note that users and groups are often maintained by a separate identity provider (IdP) in the Tableau environment. Microsoft Active Directory can be used as an IdP to manage users and groups with Tableau Server at install time. Tableau Cloud uses the System for Cross-Domain Identity Management (SCIM) standard to allow users and groups to be managed by an IdP outside Tableau.
