Bandwidth management
Within an organization’s network, many devices and users are sending and receiving messages to/from each other. Some users are uploading and downloading files from the internet, while others are having a teleconference meeting using a Voice over IP (VoIP) or Video over IP solution. Overall, many different traffic types are traveling along a network. Some of these traffic types are using a connection-oriented protocol such as Transport Control Protocol (TCP), while others are using a connectionless protocol such as User Datagram Protocol (UDP).
One of the major differences between TCP and UDP is that TCP provides guaranteed delivery for packets over a network. If a packet is not delivered to its intended destination, the sender will retransmit the message until the destination host provides an acknowledgment.
