Understanding IP communication is a very important part of beginning your journey in the field of networking. In this chapter, we covered the fundamentals of IP, and we dove into the concepts and characteristics of both IPv4 and IPv6. We saw the differences in both versions, their advantages and disadvantages, their usage situations, their various types of addresses, the transmission types of both IPv4 and IPv6, and we covered subnetting and VLSM.
In the next chapter, we'll cover routing and switching concepts, such as understanding network traffic and segmentation, how routers and switches function, and their benefits in increasing the performance of the network.
