Including Acrobat Reader users in a review process
Since many users are still working on a desktop (or laptop) version of Acrobat when reviewing a .pdf
document, their access to features depends on which application they use: Acrobat, Acrobat Pro, or a free version Acrobat Reader.
In free Acrobat Reader, the commenting features are available only in a .pdf
file with commenting enabled. This requires an extra preparatory step using a full version of Acrobat, before sending files for review.
To ensure that editors working with a free Acrobat Reader have the ability to participate in a review, you need to activate Enable Document for Commenting. Here are the steps:
- Open a
.pdf
file that will be distributed to free Acrobat Reader users. - Select these options from the top menu: File | Save As Other | Reader Extended PDF | Enable Commenting and Measuring.
- An alert will appear, reminding you that the copy of the file will be altered:
