Tidying up the model

Let’s return to our house project. We already mentioned we will need proper connections between the walls, and we also need to close the gap between some of the walls and the roof. This can be done in a variety of ways, and in this section, we will introduce common practices for this step.

Changing wall composites for better connections

The use of the Generic Wall/Shell Composite has a major drawback: connections with the chosen interior walls do not look correct. How connections between building materials work and which attributes and modeling concepts are involved will be discussed in Part 2 – Chapter 8. For now, we will simply choose “matching” Composites:

1. Open the 3D view.
2. Make sure Groups are active (not suspended).
3. Click an exterior wall on the ground floor. All four walls should be selected.
4. Shift + click on one of the exterior walls on the first floor to add all four to the selection.
