Summary
In this chapter, we reviewed the OPNsense versioning concepts, explored some basic hardware considerations for better performance of your OPNsense installation, and how to download and install it on VirtualBox. We also configured VirtualBox to add a LAN on an OPNsense VM, and after that, we looked at how to update and install plugins on it. We learned how to enable SSH access and even explored a little bit of the CLI world, practicing with the pkg command while we learned about FreeBSD packages.
In the next chapter, we will dive into networking configurations in OPNsense.
