Deploying distribution points
A major strength of Configuration Manager is the fact that it is a highly flexible and customizable application. This means that when we distribute any content using Configuration Manager, providing the setup is correct, then it should have no negative impact on the wide area network (WAN) in any way.
The placement of distribution points is something that requires careful consideration and should be planned carefully. Information on your network such as an overview of the topology of your network as well as utilization information for your network links is also critical information, which will help you plan the placement and configuration of distribution points in your environment.
Planning for the placement of distribution points
As a typical scenario, imagine an environment with nine remote sites. The headquarters site is also where the primary site is deployed. We will simply refer to these sites as the following cities:
