Protecting the innocent


At the start of the interview the newsperson mentions that the witness would like to have his identity protected. In this task you will achieve that by adding a blur effect over the subject's face using what's called a track matte. Strictly speaking, the lack of motion tracking in Premiere Pro makes this effect somewhat of a challenge, but in this next section you'll see how use of the Premiere Pro CS6 titler application, combined with some simple stock effects, can create the look you are after, one that really will protect the innocent.

Engage Thrusters

Create a blurred face using the Premiere Pro titler. Perform the following steps:

  1. Locate the first usage of the Two_Shot.avi clip on the Timeline and place the Timeline indicator at the start of that clip (around 37;07).

  2. Press Ctrl + T or command + T to open up the New Title window. Leave all the settings at the default but change the Name field to Face Mask. Press Enter to accept these settings. The titler will now...
