Over the last decade, we have seen advances in the use of FRT. FRT assists industries and government agencies in many ways. Uses include preventing crime, taking attendance in school, identifying hotel guests, and optimizing the shopping experience.

Enhancing public safety
FRT has found a home in providing surveillance in many locations. For example, in Panama’s Tocumen airport, law enforcement uses facial recognition to monitor individuals as they travel through the airport. The system has successfully identified known Interpol suspects since its launch in 2010.
In the US, the Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS) provides cooperating law enforcement agencies with information on known suspects. Agencies that benefit from the system include U.S. Marshals, the FBI, and numerous local police departments.
